I agree with you, we should let the past be the past. Something had probably happened in the past and caused the people to stay quiet and not intervene in the situation. Our past is our past, there's nothing we can do about it, but we can try not to let it affect the rest of our lives. Because the more focused we are on our past the more stuck up we will be and this will prevent us from moving forward.

This article is about a woman named Catherine Genovese who lived in Long Island, New York. She was killed by a man while returning home from work. She was actually stabbed three times by the attacker. Not even one of her neighbors bothered to call the police at first. After she was dead that's when one of her neighbors notified the police. Her neighbors claimed that they were going to go to a concentration camp if they had called the police. This story relates to the Nazis because people were afraid to stand up for what is right. In my opinion, I think it is sometimes necessary to break the rules. If I were placed in the position as the neighbors, I would rather take my chances knowing that I did something great than to die knowing that I had a chance to do something great but I didn't.

I agree with this comment because the Nazis and Catherine's problem are both solved in the end. But that was the past it you should not let it effect your future.

I agree with the nazi example, they were basically afraid of standing up for themselves because of what could potentially happen to them if they got involved.

I agree with you because in our society today, police have make us uncomfortable to trust them. Every day people are being killed by police officers, this causes people to have trust issues. We as a whole, we need to work together to keep our world safe and peaceful for our future generation. Our past will be the past if we let it go.

This article is based on holocaust all over again which your statement is so true. Good question I really don't have a answer maybe they didn't want them to notice what they have done.

This article is a story about a woman named Catherine Genovese lived in Long Island, New York. She was killed by a man while returning home from work. Not one person telephoned the police during the assault; one witness called after the woman was dead. They watched she die rather instead of standing up to help, this is a good example of people were afraid to stand up for what is right. I think to be brave and die sooner, it better than continue living to hurt those around us, and can't help anyone.

I agree, because we should always stand for what's right no matter the consequences. When we help each other we also help ourselves, because we live on the same planet, we are all humans, something that affects one person can affect a whole lot other people. We need to help each other to make this world a better place.

Its easy to say things like, 'standing up for whats right.' The problem is a lot of times they're not left standing but rather on the ground, in pain.

I agree with this comment because you have to take risks in order to succeed. Never be afraid of the outcome, just take the problem head on.

Thirty-Eight Witnesses was about a murder in Queens, New York. What made this murder set apart from others was that it could have been avoided very easily. Their were thirty-eight witnesses to it and nobody would come forward to what happened. The most disturbing thing of all was that not one of the people who witnessed the murder in progress even called the police. Neighbors were awakened by the screams of the woman but they did nothing. "Oh my God, he stabbed me! Please help me!" From the apartment across the street a man yelled down: "Let that girl alone!" The suspect then looked at him, shrugged and walked toward a car parked a short distance away. Miss Genovese struggled trying to stand. The lights from the apartments went out. Then the killer returned to Miss Genovese, now making her way around the corner trying to make her way to her apartment. The murderer stabbed her again. "I'm dying!" she yelled. "I'm dieing!" Windows opened again, and lights turned on in many apartments. The perpetrator got into his car and drove away. Miss Genovese got to her feet as a bus drove by. Once again then the assailent returned. By this time Miss Genovese had crawled to the back of the building where hoped she was safe. The killer checked all three doors on the apartment before finding her behind the third. He saw her slumped on the floor at the foot of the stairway. He then fatally stabbed her a third and final time. This shows the people cared just not enough to save her life by calling the cops right away or just even coming down to save her like so they should have.

The article "38 witnesses" is about a woman named Catherine Genovese who was killed in her own apartment. The way she died is really sad and upsetting. She was returning from work and she noticed a man starring at her. So she started walking really fast and went to her apartment. The man followed her and stabbed her to death. She cried out for help and no one helped her. No one deserves to die like this. They could've helped her out but they chose not to. This made me realize that you can never rely on people like you think. It's like they didn't even care, the fact that they were listening to a woman dying didn't even bother them. We need to help each other to make the world a better place. We need to start changing our actions and stand up for what's right. We need to start caring more because what goes around comes back around.

Example one as they say in the article "as we have reconstructed the crime" the police said there were 3 chances to kill the woman. In conclusion they finished and found out who was the killer eventually it was Winston Moseley the killer, was caught and sentenced to the electric chair.

This my article of the week post just copy and paste this : In this article, a woman by the name of Kitty Genovese was stabbed and died in front of the building she lived in. Many people heard her cries for help, turned on their lights, and also yelled out of their windows, but for many reasons they chose not to get involved. It was not until after she was dead that someone decided to call the police and come out of their apartments. When some of the witnesses were interviewed, those who heard her calls for help said they did not call the police because they did not want to give out their personal information, which i dont understand . Those who actually saw Kitty did not think she was being hurt, they thought it was just a joke. The author wrote this article to show by example how important it is for people to take action when they are faced with a criminal act and to not be afraid to help our fellow man or woman because if it was them they'd want help. Due to the lack of action and selfishness, the people who saw and heard Kitty being attacked, someone who could have lived died. The purpose of this essay is to inform the reader of the circumstances of Kitty Genovese’s murder and to analyze why 37 people did not call the police during the crime. One feels as though if you see he crime happening and dont help, you are just as guilty as the criminal performing the crime.

I agree with Justin's quote that said if you see a crime happening and you did nothing to stop it, you are guilty by association. Many people may say well I had nothing to do with it or I saw what happened but I was not trying to get myself involve. Every time you watched someone being murder or hurt and you did nothing to stop the suspect, you are just as guilty as the criminal. Like the 38 witnesses in this article, they were afraid of getting into trouble with the police so they watched this woman being killed by some stranger.

The things they experienced in the past caused the people not to take action. They feared that what happened in the past would repeat so they decided to do nothing in order to avoid any problems. It is wrong what they did and I agree that they are as guilty as the killer. Next time something similar happens they stand up and take action and not do as they did before.

i do not agree with the statement " If one sees an act of evil and dosent try to help then they are just as guilty as the one who commits the evil" becuase they were scared of their lives getting taken away from them and some of them might of not really thought that she was being attacked maybe it was just loud so they didnt want to get involved they were scared and they had a right to be their goverment took and killed many of their loved ones and they were scared to go through that process and ordeal again i would of done the same thing and been scared.

38 Witnesses is an article about the Kitty Genovese murder at the hands of Winston Moseley. The article focuses on the the thirty eight people who did nothing to stop Winston to emphasis the brutality of the crime. New York is crowded, loud, smelly, and cold. Naturally the people will be sour, I think apathy and callousness isnt just a New York thing though, its a Human thing. Hesitation leads to callousness and apathy, just like in our first block. No one really wants to go first, we all wait on each other. Why? Because no one wants to bare the burden of messing up first. The 38 witnesses didn't want to get involved, they thought someone else would. Naturally, the theory that theres some hero waiting to stand up and rescue someone is unfounded. Edmund Burke once said, 'All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.' Thats what happend here, people wanted a leader but refused to be that leader. They doubted themselves, and it cost them a member of their own community.

I agree what they did was wrong. What they experienced in the past should not restrict them from doing what is right. Getting involved may get you in a bad situation but at least you know you did the right thing.

The article is about a woman who was stabbed to death. The woman screamed for help as 38 people in the neighborhood watched and did nothing. After she was murdered was when one of the spectators called the police. The police was surprised that no one called during the first attack. Most of the people who lived in the area were former Nazi prisoners. The citizens must have seen things they witnessed in the past and feared to take action. During the Holocaust the police harmed everyone who was not german. The german citizens who knew it was wrong what they were doing to the jews did not take action, because they also feared that they would be harmed. The citizens must have thought that getting involved would affect them as well. Past experiences cause people to panic and fear things and situations depending on what they faced. The fact that they did nothing to help the woman was wrong. Experiences like the Holocaust are hard to recover from but people should still do the right thing by helping in any way possible.

I agree that they were wrong to not call the police but i believe that it was a very difficult decison because they had just gotten out of the camps and they had endured so much wrong so they were scared and didnt know what to do the man that did call the cops was brave but he just decided to call them to late its bad that she died but atleast the man got sentenced to life in prison or the electric chair

This article was about a woman who had just gotten off of work when she was attacked and stabbed and people saw her bleeding out and dying but because of their past history with police they didnt want to get involved alot of the people werent as scared as the attacker but scared of the police because this was in a time period when they were just released from concetration camps and they were all scared so the woman bled out and died because the goverment had put fear into peoples hearts and they were so scared that they didnt even want to call the cops to save the young womans life and the cops would of gotten there in time to save her

This article is about a woman who was stabbed. It was more like a no snitching rule because people were too afraid to tell. The government played a role into this. 38 Witnesses basically shows how much fear were in people hearts. If they wouldve told the cops , the woman would be alive but instead they let her bleed out.

I agree with the article because the past can cripple you from having a good life in the future. Being a coward will get you no where. You have to stand up for yourself so you can be the one on top. One day you might be in the same situation as Catherine and you would want someone to come to your aid. Be the person someone can call their hero.
