After reading the 3 articles, “ Jonathan Butler: How a grad student hunger strike topped a university president”, “University of Missouri president leaves over race complaints”, and “For those left in Syria, life among the ruins takes on a ghostly air”, I realize that many problems about the race of people and wars still exist. The first 2 articles connect with the story about the student whose name is Jonathan Butler, he takes a protest to force the resignation of the University of Missouri’s president because of the radical problem. The author says in the articles: “ Butler focused on the unsatisfactory response from the university’s administration to radical incident on campus” or “black student groups have complained of racial slurs and other slights on the overwhelmingly white flagship campus of the state's four-college system”, which show the negative behave of people in the university towards black people. There’s nothing to be surprise why he has a protest for what he believe is right. “ The president of the University of Missouri system resigned Monday with the football team and others on campus in open revolt over his handling of racial tensions at the school”, by giving this information, I think this is a victory for new movement. Because it shows that at least the protest works and achieve its goal. This is a significant for the black civil right, and I think it also shows the meaning that black people should be treated equally. The third article, “ For those left in Syria, life among the ruins takes on a ghostly air”, talks about the problem in Homs, Syria after the civil war. The city was destroy and destructive. People start to move to the new place. From what I’ve known, I think people immigrant to a new place is a good choice because Syria is not a safe and good place to live, people should move to get a better place, the speaker says, “the depopulation of a nation now defined by images of bombed-out buildings, rubble-strewn streets and refugees on the move”, shows a dangerous situation. Reading through the 3 articles, I think our world still faces with many problems; we need to make a change in order to create a peaceful relationship and environment.

It was a win because it was the students objective to get the president removed from his position but now they have to work harder to get more justice.

my comments on this article are that he did the right thing to stand up for what he thought was right. He did what someone else did not this was a heroic action of him to stand up for what he belive was wrong. I believe Jonathan Butler was a hero for standing up for his rights

This was a victory for the student activists, because the president of the Missouri college has resigned. He controls much of the school decisions, so from this point in time, and forward hopefully they will find a more appropriate candidate to run and hold any future school conflicts. This whole situation could've been avoided if he just handled the reoccurring situations properly. Now his salary just disappeared. This should serve as a life lesson for everyone. Nothing should ever go this far.

I fully respect the Missouri student for standing up for what they believe in and I would do the same if I was in their position, I also believe that racial slurs and racial mocking are becoming a huge problem in today society and are getting out of hand. If things keep going on like this things could get worst, like world war III might come from these problems. We have to learn to accept each other and live as one.

I believe the movement that was sparked by this conflict is partially resolved or successful, considering that the movement member's first objective was to remove president of the University of Missouri Tim Wolfe from his position. Even though they were able to do just that, they still are under the oppression of different aggressive forces that are indirectly obscuring their main goal. They have many more steps to go until they reach their true vision of freedom. For example, the many civil rights movements back in the 1950-60s used many methods of protest (excluding aggressive methods) in order to make their dream come true. Though the dream hasn't come true just yet, future generations are ensuring that the dream will one day become real. At this moment, the dreams of the Concerned Student Movement members are still in the process of becoming reality, but they need more than just hope. They have to show that they are dedicated to the cause as long as they show no aggression towards oppressors. Only then will they progress on the road to true freedom.

I think the Missouri president’s resignation would not be a victory for this new movement because the university's governing board demanded the president step down to allow the university to heal and make positive changes. In other words the University wants to tack action so that the students wouldn't make a big commotion and start something that could affect the universities reputation. The university would rather support than to let the president take action.

The University of Missouri president had made an racist comment about the school. The comment made the football team and a lot of students to go on strikes against him. This made the news everywhere world wide. All the students wanted him to resign. The president finally resign.

Yes i believe that the president resigning in Missouri was a victory because in the text it clearly says at least 30 black football players refused to play until the president was gone. If your playing a sport your dedicated and committed to what you do so for 30 or more football players to say they wont play until he's gone shows that he's doing something wrong. Students were upset they said there complaints were "clear" and "real". The students refused to do anything while he was in office because of his racial comments .

Yes, indeed they are sure heroes. Not only did they get black people to attend school in that school but got respect for attending a all white school. Anyways they did leave a message behind, well to me i like to see it as a message but anyways, the African american students were able to find a way to get the people attention. One person went on a hunger strike the others did not play football i mean were gonna miss a one million dollar game if the president of the school did not leave the office. By doing this they got even more attention. The media got involved and showed that a change needed to be done in that school of racial slurs that was going on in and outside of the school. Yes i do believe they are heroes in many peoples eyes. They showed that with a lot of effort you can achieve something or maybe even big things. Showed that black people do care about their surrounds and what is going around them.

To the question of if I think the Missouri president's resignation was a victory for the new upcoming civil rights movement is kind of a 50/50 thing. Just because they managed to get one man out of control of the school, who's to say that another, just like him, wont come to take over? I know that they demand to have more faculty and staff of color working there, but who's to say that their demand is going to be granted in full? Their idea/plan of what they did was a good one, to get what they wanted on what they thought best to help their fellow peers, but sooner or later everyone is going to have to realize that racism, racial slurs, biased statements, and prejudices are a part of life. It's a part of our life, whether white, black, Hispanic, purple or blue. It's a part of America. Yes, I do think it is very wrong and needs to end, but let's be honest with ourselves, it's not. It never has, and it never will. We, as american, need to understand that. You hear it or get subjected to it, ignore it and be about your business. Just continue your life. Life goes on. -Aliyah Patterson

My opinion is that Butler wasn't a here because e he made some one to stop doing what they work so hard for and I don't think that's fair so he's being the same as the other people who is being racist, for example; he made the president of the university quit his own job. I think he should give him another chance and do the strike for something to be done, no for someone to quit their job, because they don't know who is next to take over the university and the next one can be the one who don't allow black to the university, at least Tim Wolfe let them have an education and am not defending what Wolfe did because it was wrong he should have done something before things got this out of hand, but I don't think Butler is a here either.

It was a sad day all around America Friday,13 Nov2015.There where over 115,000 lives lost that single day,Paris was a major area of death totals.Paris had been attacked by terrorist, suicide bombers took lives away from many families that day sadly.According to the article this only sat people on edge, more than they already were.In the article it says "The latest violence will only heighten the tension on a continent that is already on edge from the accumulated strain of a historic migration crisis."Which is giving a perspective of the people and is showing that this is the 2nd attack this year and has people of Paris living on edge.

All three articles express one major issue and that is RACISM. It's getting out of control and everyone's tired of it. We have all these people in positions to change things but they try to ignore it only to limit the amount of stress they already endure. For example, former President Wolfe of Mizzou, he was made aware of the the race inflicted incidents on and around campus but decided to do nothing about it. It had to take a student to threaten to kill his self almost, or the football team to jeopardize losing $1 million dollars for him to decide to resign. Its getting out of control now. It really is. Then we have video proof of a white officer shooting and killing an unarmed black man, still no justice. What is it gonna take for everyone to open their eyes and see what's really going on? They say things gotta get worse before they get better, but I don't think we can take much more or the worst part.

My thoughts on the article is that people should stand up for what they feel is right. Justice should be a standard in America. Racism shouldn't even be a factor in the U.S. anymore. America is so diverse and so different nowadays that you would think that people got over it. The ethnicity shouldn't determine what kind of person you are no matter what the circumstances are. I'm with Jonathan Butler 100% on this one because he is against a system that is clearly advocating racism.

A tale of 3 city's, 3 different places, but they all have something in common. At the college all the students coming together to end one problem. In Syria the president is bringing his country together, telling them to stop pouting and having them work together rebuilding homes and other things like that. In Paris they could use some love. 132 people dead, yesterday I put a picture on instagram about a man and his child. The back of his head is completely gone. The one thing about Paris is that they fight back. In the words of M.G.K. I had a dream that the world changed, and for a minute their was no pain.... that I wake up to see the worlds heal, oceans painted from the oil spills. You know I wish that I could let the world know, that its okay to let the pain show, and even tho times seem bad. It always rain before the rainbow. We all can take the time to give a little more love. Come together in unity like the students at the college who fault for whats right, and the people in Syria and Paris who picked themselves up when things could have gotten worse.

This all Have tragic moments that we must live and accept with because that is how our world is. He wanted what was best for his school and others. He is getting hate and love by many. As for the incident that happen in Paris it is just unfortunate they did not expect that sort of attack on them. France has always been a great country,The United States are allies with France and I believed that we are gonna help them in one of their toughest moments and sure that they will thank the United States very much. They must come together and defeat that evil

yes i believe the president resignations was a victory for the new movement because other movements protest all the time to racial inequality and no changes comes and the fact that the youth got together and created a movement without creating any sort of problems is an A+.the president had no choice but to resign Because according to the passage 30 black football players decided not to play the game there was no option left for the president to do and we need more movements like this that don't cause chaos, and when you are calm that's when people are going to take the time to listen to you.

Based on what I read about the University of Missouri's I believe this young mans are heroes. It was amazing the impact they cause but the way they accomplish this was by using leadership, unity, and bravery. They set an example to everyone that we can get what we want with hard work. Yes I do agree that racism will never stop. Why? because racism is something that is a heart consumer. There is always going to be someone that doesn't have love for others if it's not their own kind in or not their same color tone. It's sad but it's the truth. Even though America says African Americans have free rights we all know they don't.

After reading the three articles about the issues in the University of Missouri, the president resignation and the hunger strike of a student "Johnatan Butler" was a victory because it brought change to many people lives .Although in my opinion the issues are partially resolved as Leynus Munoz .Even though Tim Wolfe ,the president resigned, there are other issues that need to be faced .For instance ,the president is the head of the school in this case. There are numerous decisions that are taken and offered to him.Basically , although the students want change the president takes action.I also respect the risk Johnatan Butler took and stood for the change of his people which include race ,religion and education ,because sometimes we as humans have to leave our fears behind and stand for the truth and change, furthermore may develop and enhance others future although it may not be the solution to the entire issue. The activists students may have conquer their fear But it is just not the end obviously because there is more to the issue than we the audience or listener hold in consideration or are aware of.The leaders/ advocates of the strike and manifestation need to take deeper actions and decisions to resolve the racial ,educational and religious issues over time in my opinion.

All of theses articles show that this world is still messed up and it will maybe still continue to be messed up. The article of Butler and the resigned oneis just one of the many cases that is happening in this society. Racism will still continue to exist and I think no one can stop it. I do think that Butler was brave for doing a non violence act against the college president. That gives all of us hope that things can get better. But that will not change the fact that there are still people that believe that race is so important. After all in the second article the president decides to leave but in my opinion that will not change his mind of thinking. Now the third article the affection that people go through after war. everything in this world is going for the worst and it might be a sign for the end of the world.

Yes, these people are heroes because they finally got Wolfe (the president of Missouri college) to leave. Meaning that hopefully the situation will be better than it was when the president was there. They can finally flip the scrip so everyone will be treated equal. Honestly if the president had handled the situation when students approached him about it the first time he would have still had his job. Instead he dragged his feet and brushed the situation off as if it was nothing, when in reality this is a serious issue. I personally believe that if it was his race being treated as if they were nothing and not good enough, he would be the first on board. Honestly I just wish the world wasn't built on race issues and violence. There are a lot of things that we are simply able to do today because of those things. I never thought we would still have to deal with a race issue in the twenty first century, buts its hard not to see color in a crayola factory, and that's the issue.

This article is not really surprisng to me at this time. Why because a lot of crazy irrational situations have been occuring lately. It is sad how people are getting unfair treatment because the color of their skin, Within we all are the same. Students from this university was right to stand up, because they honestly deserve a lot more respect. Even those who choose not to participate they are all still victims. Why is it such a big deal that we have different cultures and diverse?

I agree with the students doing what they feel necessary in order to have a change in the college. From the sit-ins to Johnathan Butler who was having a hunger strike. If the students never stood up fro themselves then nobody would have. If they didn't make what was happening there a big deal then nobody would have. I'm glad that the president stepped down because it shows that he wasn't willing to fight for the equality of all his students. What he did was take the easy way out of the situation and it shows that he is just a weak individual at heart. I'm just glad that the students have actually made progress in what they want to achieve at their school.

My comments on this article are that Butler stood up for what he believe, and that to me was the right thing to do. No matter what he still fought to be heard. This article here shows us a lot about the world we are living in now, I mean I know that racism is still here, but I never about it like this. Racism is a crucial thing especially if your a victim of it. I believe that it should stop but I also know that people do what they wanna too. In conclusion I believe what Butler did was absoultley right.

Racism is something that has been around for long time and it is something that is really controversial. People should not take racism as a joke because it’s a serious subject and we cannot underestimate the problem. I really believe what i read on the article "The athletes of color on the University of Missouri football team truly believe 'Injustice Anywhere is a threat to Justice Everywhere,'" I truly believe that there shouldn’t be injustice anywhere. everyone should have equal rights and everyone should get justice.

Yes i feel as if these people are heros because they got the president of Missouri college to leave. Which means that since he is gone maybe it will be a better place and the situation will be better. they have set an example to everyone that we should go for what we believe in and stand by their beliefs and that shows heart and dedication for such a strong subject. I believe racism will never stop because noone can channel anyones thoughts or belief or even enforce someone to believe a certain way . all we can do is try. people are going to have thier own looks on people so therefor we might be free but some people will always single others out on anything not just race. so i feel as if racism will never stop.

After reading all three articles I think racism and terrorist attacks are really horrible actions, I don't know how some people in this world can be so cruel. I personally agree with what Jonathan Butler did for his rights as an African American to go on a hunger strike till Wolfe (President of Missouri College) leaves because of his racist slurs. I would have joined Butler and the other students to protest against Wolfe. Seems like there's always terrorist attacks ever since 9/11. I think the U.S should help France at this time they need all the help they can get. There is nothing wrong with helping someone in need of help. I wish there can be a STOP to all these terrorist attacks ASAP because people are dying left to right from these attacks and that is not good.

By reading this article I can conclude that racism and discrimination is all involved .Although it's a win for the student and a new beginning to their education because it won't be done the same they still need a leader as le president of the university to be the superior and direct the university's movements as every president should. I agree it was a win that the president Tim Wolfe resignated because they needed change as of the hunger strike caused by him ,which means he wasn't doing his job.Tim W should be seeking his students future and his university enlightenment than going after his own benefit (money) and being racist.
