This video surprised me when there was only four teens in honors because that told me that education is a struggle for that community. Then it makes me think of the school I'm going to and all the stories I heard about it and how I am blessed to go to a school that allows me to feel safe to learn, so that i can have a future.

That school seems unreal. That school is something you would see on worldstar. And I thought Garinger was ghetto and a culture shock. It's sad to see kids not know its more out there. Its things better than high school. I couldn't let myself get to that level. I've made it through my four years of high school without a fight. I understand for someone to put their hands on you because its self defense, but to spit on someone, or to fight because of what someone says is very ignorant and unnecessary.

My opinion about the video is positive but at the same time upsetting. It's hard to see the less fortunate, the kids at that school grew up in rough conditions so it kind of explains there actions. They don't have any support so they come to school and act up, no one at home is telling them that its not right. And then you have the few students who really wan't to learn when they come to school but they cant because all of the distractions. But the positive is that they have a principle who cares, and puts in effort to make them better.

I understand what you are saying but that does not mean that they have no one at home to look up to some people just act up to act up not because they have no one to look up to but everything else you are saying is very correct about the school and what you feel about it

Strawberry Mansion High School was the most dangerous school in America. I couldn't believe that this school had such a high rate of violence. Honestly, Garinger has nothing on them. What also astonished me was the amount of students that really wanted to learn. Most people would have figured that the most dangerous school in America would have no students that wanted to learn or were capable of learning. I'm very glad that the high faith coming from the students and staff gave them the push to drive forward, and they were rewarded for that. Hopefully more will come from that school, not just fights and shootings.

It's really sad and difficult to learn with distractions like those.I have experienced the same thing in my old school "Samuel Fels High School" in Philadelphia,we were in the first 10th worst school of the district. We had more than five fights everyday, and the worst reputation in the community.Every morning we went through a scanner ,putting our bags through the machines before entering the school.Students still brought weapons and guns.Every school year ,there is a free fall ,or students bringing a gun. Moreover, the principal had made a lot of changes according to the previous graduates ,but it still wasn't enough for our safety ,we even wore uniforms. It is really challenging and distracting to attend or to learn in that environment. When people say Garinger is bad i just stare at them but deep inside i'm proud to be a wildcats and if we need more changes we need to make it ourselves. You never know how good or better you are unless you see or experience worst.

My thoughts and opinions of this news special about Strawberry Mansion are that in the beginning this school needed some serious reconstruction. The students were out of hand and nothing was under control . There was only 3 student out of 400 that actually were honor student. I found it touching that someone higher up volunteered to become principle for a school she was determined to change . When she became principle she made it possible for students who were determined to gain an education to go to the colleges of their dreams and even allowed the school to have uniforms (even though the kids wanted them) because of the issues of kids wearing what they want to school. All together she truly changed the school for the better .

This story about the strawberry mansion high is true, and I believe that students make up the school. There are some student that are willing to learn and some that are not willing to learn. Your education dependents on the choice that you made. The the girl that they talk about in the video provide that there are some student are willing, because they know that their life dependent on it. so if you have the chance and all that you can to make it.

This a story about a high school in Philadelphia. A story in which most of the kids or students forgot the true meaning of education, of being a student. Students that made the people who believed in them quite believing in them. The student which kept believing in their dream, who knew the importance of their education inspire and gave a reason for a women who volunteer to become the principal. The new principal took the high school in charge while knowing her own life where danger, but she felt the need and desire on helping those student on accomplish their dream and making it to college and give those with no ambition a purpose. She kept on trying even though her life was in danger. She enforce the school policy, provide more security. Step by step she had more control of the school, filled most of her student with love. At the end of the school year, double the number of the precedent year graduated students graduates. She accomplish a part of her mission and desire. As the new year begin, she look forward and better year.

After watching this video of strawberry mansion, I can see that the school was a serious disaster. Fights every single day, threats going around like air and etc. However the principle change the school and they came a long way, it was truly inspiring.

I wasn't really surprised. In my opinion I feel like that we need more positive role models and as Americans we are being mislead. We need to just stop glorifying violence and appeal as more peaceful people rather than acting like mindless imbeciles.

Thats a great way to look at it. Violence is glittered by urban society. We make it seem like violence is okay. When there are repercussions to those acts of violence. And that is an endless downward spiral that is hard to escape.

Strawberry Mansion kinda reminds me of how Garinger used to be. If Garinger can make progress into the right direction so can Strawberry. Things like that aren't hard when there's people who genuinely care.I feel bad for the kids that attend that school and who wants to learn but gets pulled into the BS, but that's when you maintain self control and remember where you want to see yourself in the near future.

My opinion about the video is that the kids should be action like the way they do. And I think they wouldn't be action like that if their persons would care about things they are doing at home or either at school, but I really think parents no matter what should be involved with there kids school work and other things dealing with school. And I'm glad to see at least a couple of kids that want to be involved in school and that actually want to learn something.

Greetings big stan. Well lets begin and give you my reaction to the high school. The students who attend there have it really hard but think about their struggle makes them go hard in school. Even what they go through they give it there all and go froth with school. I respect people like that. They know they are at the bottom but school is there for them to help them get out of the struggle or the war they are going through. That lil kid said i dont act big. He's smart hes avoiding any trouble. Even he does get off past but not a lot because he wants to become a bigger man. Over all People who attend there and get school done i have all my respect for them.

It"s sad to see my youth act so poorly when it comes to education. I wonder why some kids let themselves behave so badly, sometimes its not the kids fault maybe it's how they are raised and some choose to follow the negative ways instead of the positive ways. Most of the students at Strawberry Mansion were very bad but there were a couple of students trying to do the right things and staying focus in school. With the positive attitude their principle have i think that shows how much the principle care for these kids.

It was crazy to see what they went through on a regular day basis. Like no boots or hoodies to school at all. That's crazy because we're talking about up north were it just snows constantly. The fact that they have 94 security cameras in 1 school blew my mind. What they do daily just to get into the school also was crazy to me. People give Garinger a bad reputation, but compared to schools like Strawberry Mansion we good. We don't have metal detectors and we don't need to get searched every time we walk through the doors. But what I thought was really cool was how the principle wanted to see a change in the school. She didn't have to do that but she wanted to and she sees the best in the students and she is trying her best to make a change. I really liked when she was on the announcements and told the students that she loved them just in case no one else did that day. That was really cool.

This video documentary has changed my whole viewing of Garinger. Seeing a school that is actually "bad" and dangerous makes me thankful that I'm at this school instead of that one. I also want to give all due respect to the principle that came in and turned the school around. Looking at the video make me look up more info about it online. And i found that the following year the school had its first football team and they went undefeated!

Looking at Strawberry Mansions enviorment makes you realize how good we have it. We have a lot more opportunities then what they have, way more. It shows how much some of us take our education for granted. What we have is not always appreciated like it should be. Puts you in realization that things could be worse.

Wow, I thought Garinger High was a bad school. Now looking at Strawberry Mansion that must be a terrible school. Every morning having to be search, walking through a metal detector, getting patch down, going to that school must be a really rough time if you're really trying to learn and having goals that you want to accomplish throughout your life. I started my freshman year at EastMeck and knowing that after my sophomore year I'm getting transfer to Garinger High, i said "that is one bad school." But now as i look at it, Garinger is not as bad as people think it is. I think people who hasn't gone to Garinger think Garinger is bad because of the history that this school has on itself, but it has changed through the years that came because of the Staff at Garinger.

I think that the school is not as pretty as the name. You would expect something with the name "Strawberry Mansion" to be something of wealth, but the name of the high school is part of the irony. Most of its students are under the poverty level, which also ironic because of the name, and gave me a good laugh because I found the irony funny.

That high school is really bad. I think the ones with Honors and potential can grow and be one of the strongest and intelligent people in that state since they overcame the extremely harsh environment around them. I think that school is bad and hard to be at because of the community. The community has high level of carjacks and rape, the kids have bad role models and bring those behaviors they learn on the streets to school. It makes me appreciate Garinger.

I really liked how the lady stepped up to be the principle when nobody else would. i find her very brave because it takes a real guts to step up and do such things. She knew what she was was going to face but still she wanted to go there. she wanted to make a difference and change the school's reputation. I can make a connection to this article because we have had several principles in past few years. I don't remember seeing any principles for more than a year. Nobody really lasted that long in here. I really like our new principle because she volunteered to be a principle here because of the pride she have for this school. Her father was in the first graduating class of Garinger. She has the same motif as the principle of that school Strawberry Manson high. They both want to see the difference in the community. As Mahatma Gandhi said "Be the difference you want to see in the world." I really like this saying and i really like what both Principles are doing. They both want to see the difference in the community and they don't want to just watch, they were actually brave enough to step in and make the difference and i really respect that.

Garinger cant be compared to Strawberry Mansion High School. Garinger is said to be a dangerous school which can turn a good student to a drop out, but those are the students decision. Garinger doesn't need metal detectors, 90 plus cameras, tons of security. Garinger isnt the best of schools, but if the students would do what they needed we could change what others have labeled labeled the school.

To be honest I hear a lot of people talking about Garinger, but they don't know anything about the other schools up north and how some of the children are struggling to get their education because of classroom distractions. The media finally put something on the TV were someone is trying to do good in other peoples lives instead of posting all the negativity. Its nice that she can volunteer to be a principle at a school that was supposed to go down the drain.

This is my first time of watching a video document about a high school in the US, especially I am very surprised of what had had happened at Strawberry Mansion high school. The kids are so immature and irresponsible. There are a lot of police in the school, they try to secure the students from fighting. The principle says, " there are 94 cameras around the school", showing that the school tries to keep an eyes on every corners of the area. Many kids here are uncontrolled themselves from fighting. However, I think they have such that behavior not only because of the environment around but also the parents. One teacher in the video says, " there is only one parent come to school on the meeting", they seem like do not care about their child, so there is nothing to be surprised that the kids behave in that way. Some of the kids say that they were scared when they came to school, while others say they want to have knowledge so they needed to come. I feel sorry for those kids. Besides that, I feel admiring to the principle, she chooses to be a principle of that school because she loves the kids and wants to contribute her abilities to help them success, even though she is in the less safety community.

I personally believe that this principal really cares. She has stressed to make not only a better school, but a better path as well for her students. Not too many people in the world would go this far, most people don't even want to help out the homeless. Apparently it's just oh so stressful, but this women went to the extreme to not only step up as the principal, but change the school as well. This woman's heart is golden.

This is the second time I watch a documentary on Strawberry Mansion high school. Is a very disturbing video. It's very sad how certain students aren't grateful of being able to go to school for free. What hurts me the most is that the decisions they make doesn't only effect them but also those surrounding them. For example there teachers, classmates, school, and parents. There were many students at Strawberry Mansion High school that wanted to get their education and learn but in the learning environment there in is very difficult to stay focus. Nor the teachers or staff make the school we do as student. Why don't we start behaving like civilize young adults?

The school have a lot of problems. But is not really the school because the school is made of the students inside. The have many distractions like fights and having to look over their back all the time because you never know what is going to happen. I find the environment very hard to study on, but in spite of that there still are some student that try hard ,and have good grades no matter how bad the situation is at home or school.

I thought this video was very touching. The care and interest the principle has for those kids are unbelievable. To be honest I thought those type of schools only existed in movies. Other wise I understand why they act like that because it's all about how they are raised. They are all surrounded by violence which is the reason why they behave like that. Other than that this video has made me realize that I'm blessed for not being in their spot.

This video is really sad but at the same time is really helpful for students who don't appreciate their education, so I think videos like this will make student realize how lucky they are of having free education, for example in my country you gotta pay a lot of money just for one semester, so I think people who don't appreciate school or education they should to a school like this to learn how lucky they are, but in the other hand is sad because is showing how low the education is in some schools and when people see it, they might thing that is "okay" to behave like it but is not.the only thing that is good is the principal because she step up and took charge, and you can see the change in school, even though is not a lot but something is better than nothing.

Ms.Stanley ,I loved this article/new broadcast .It just seemed so relatable with our school. I mean of course we aren't that bad but still. First I would like to start of with the principle . You can truly tell that principle wants each and every child that attends that school to make it somewhere. It seems as if she puts her heart into that school. Even though the children acted unaccordingly she still looks past that. I'm glad they broadcasted her story and school, because people around the world helped and donated exactly what school needed. They also helped a few people go to college. As well as, supplied those students with uniforms so clothing wont be a distraction. I feel like that school statistics for graduating will definitely go up in upcoming years.

Strawberry Mansion is a school that is always in danger because of the area. I feel that what people have to say about Garinger has nothing on this school. When I first saw this document of this school it made me feel down for the people there because they go threw a lot just at school. Then when I saw the second document it gave a warm feeling inside because they got their donations they needed to keep the school open and the students safe and get a better education. This shows that hope can change a lot if you just believe.
