The poem, "Home", by Warsan Shire, states that no one will leave home unless they really have to. Warsan uses personification giving home a negative connotation like "No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark" emphasizing that no one will leave unless there a really good reason for them to leave. Warsan also uses repetition for "No one leaves home unless" showing that no one wants to leave their homes. Warsan's poem "Home" contains a lot of descriptive words that makes it very easy to imagine the horrifying things that will have to happen for us to leave our homes. The overall message of this poem "Home" is that no one will leave their homes unless we are forced out of it.

The poem Home by Warsah Shire is a heart filling poem about a women who feels nothing can replace the original feeling of home. She says that home is what you make it basically. It is a feeling that comes naturally and cant be made or taken away. In the middle of the poem Washire says "no one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark, you only run for the border when you see the whole city running as well". Washire is saying that you can run when things get wrong but it will forever be apart of you. From the begging to the end she gives different literary devices to describe "home". I personally wouldn't change the title because it speaks volumes for it self. The whole moral of the poem is don't be ashamed of where you are from and yes things get hard but don't give up. But like Washire said " Run away from me now i don't know what i've become, but i know that anywhere is safer then here".

The poem "Home", by Warsen Shine, somewhere to stay theres no place like home. Flashbacks repeating the past with a comparison through history of their home. Her attitude of this poem contains her anger with her feelings of her own define of home. This quote contains "No one chooses refugee campus" where they cant find their own home. Shifts to running away escaping. Significance in the title fits with the poem finding there way out of this danger and live safe. In the end of the theme taking the long way home from their danger.

The poem "Home" by Warson Shire insinuates that the world that we know now has changed and not for the good .The theme of this poem is that human rights are not being treated as fair and racism now is horrifying. All through the poem is sadness and anger for example she says'no one chooses refugee camps or strip searches...sucking your country dry". The author clearly experienced something in her life time that passed through her heart and made her write about it. She has been looking at the world and how it has changed for the worst. Racism, unfair treatment against refugees, violent crimes and so much more.

I agree, I can tell this poet has something to get off her chest and probably went through similar situations described in the poem.

In the poem Home by Warsan Shire. The poem is about how the place that she called home has pushed her away further and further. No one wants to go unless they are forced to “ Asylum seekers sucking our country dry”. Saying the people who are ruining their things and taking it because they don't have anything for themselves. The people that stayed were dying with the sample from the poem “your child's body in pieces” the journey of getting away is crazy and hectic. Leaving them with nothing but the option to beg in the streets because it's better than the insults. Begging is better than “14 men in between your legs”

The poem "Home" by Warsan Shire is about the people who have left their home and countries to move to another place, but in the poem it said " i want to go home" i think this is mean they don't wants to leave their home and countries to go somewhere else, they leave because they had no choice.

In the poem "Home" by Warsan Shire, the poem is saying that her home is no longer her home and that it has push her farther away from her safe home. In Stanza 7 she says "I want to go home but home is the mouth of a shark, home is the barrel of the gun", saying that her home is not safe she could get killed by just going home. In the last Stanza she also states " i don't know what I've become but i know that anywhere is safer than here" Shire is saying that she rather go anywhere else than home because home was became the worst place and is no longer safe to her like it use to. The author clearly says that home is no longer that place she wishes it was and that it has push her away from her real home.

Linda got right to the point. The author fells that her home is no longer safe and cannot go back anymore because she is fear for her life. She was on point but she need to check her capitalization and put it where it is necessary.

The poem, Home by Warsan Shire evokes longing for home, a place to call home. Shire uses tone and figurative language to grab the attention of readers, and to bring awareness to the public about refugees. In line 64 to 66, it says,"or the words are more tender than fourteen men between your legs. The narrator shows sadness due to the fact that she is being sexually abused by many men during the war. "No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark" (line 1 to 2). We can see that no one actually has a dreadful condition that would push them away from their home unless there is a deadly situation like war. We can see that home is where the heart lies. "No one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land" (line 24 to 25). However, there is a shift in the narrator's tone, while the narrator seems very dissatisfied with the idea of war and refugees problems/issues. She reveals the fact that people who runs from home has no choice but to leave if their life is in dangerous. Many people would choose the most uncomfortable place like jail over being at home when there's violence chasing them away.

I agree with Verolinka. The author is trying to make the public aware about how immigrants are treated and what they go through. When there's no peace in their country, they need somewhere to fell protected and that's why they take long journeys and go through many circumstances for a better life.

The poem "Home" by Warsan Shire, talks about people leaving their countries because of war, and going to another country for a better life. This poem also introduces how immigrants are sometime called with names that no one would like to be call with. Immigrants goes through a lot of though times when they arrive in a new country. This poem also talk about treatments that immigrants goes through when they are leaving their country. They "burns their palms under train, beneath carriages, and they are beaten sometimes". The author also give us this imagery about "fourteen men between your legs". This imagery makes us think so that we can put ourselves in the place of immigrants and see all the things that they go through. Immigrants should be treated fairly. They shouldn't be discriminated because of the way they speak, look, or because of their religion. Everyone should be treated equally and fairly that's the point that the author is trying to pass on.

In the poem, "Home" by Warsan Shire, the title means no one should have to leave home unless they have to. Home is what you want it to be. She shows attitude in the poem because she is saying how she feels about home. In the poem, "Asylum seekers sucking our country dry," is stating that people are messing up what we already have as a country. Home is what you feel like it should be, like home could be in the heart. The theme of the poem is that no one should have to leave home unless they are forced to physically and/or emotionally.

The poem "Home" by Warsan Shire delineates the harsh reality of what "home" looks like through her eyes. This poem informs readers on some of the things that take place in some foreign countries. Throughout the poem the author speaks on many challenges she faces as well as people who live in these areas. In lines 1 and 2 the author states,"no one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark." The author is comparing the dangers of her home to the danger of the mouth of a shark and what damage it can do. This goes to the urgency of the situation. In lines (7-9) it says," The boy you went to school with who kissed you dizzy behind the old tin factory is holding a gun bigger than his body." The author is decribing to readers the affect the violence has on the youth in their particular area. Lastly in lines (37-41) it reads,".....because prison is safer than a city of fire and one prison guard in the night is better than a truckload of men who look like your father." The auther is highlighting the mistreatment and sexual abuse women face where she is from. The author also is showing us the sadness of being put in a situation were there is a comparison between the number of men taking advantage of your body. Furthermore the shift in the tone of this piece goes from angry to more so devastated and sad in a sense. Also in the second stanza a shift accured when the narrator had a flash back to her past self. Initially before hearing and reading the poem I thought the poem was going to reflect on someone speaking on the memories of their home more so in a positive way. After reading and hearing the poem I realized the author is explaining the harsh realities and mistreatment from where she is from. She elucidated the fact that in many cases people who run away from home most likely are left with no choice and are forced to escape to a better and safer situation. This piece allows readers to be informed about the dangerous things that take place in some foreign countries and to stress the urgency of her reality.

In the poem 'Home' by Warsan Shire the author uses Imagery and Personification to convey the theme of fear, and the seeking of a new paradise. In line one Warsan Shire writes 'No one leaves home unless home is the mouth of a shark' by this she compares a once peaceful environment to a now violent one, she compares the homes of these now refugees to the mouth of a shark. A shark can only feel with its teeth, so its jaws cause destruction anywhere it decides to clamp. At one moment a shark is just simply swimming forward, the next it is devouring its next meal. In line four, she decides to use Imagery with 'you only run for the board when you see the whole city running as well.' With this she describes how refugees don't leave their homes on their own accord. Refugees are pushed out of their homes by their environments. It is never their choice to leave, it is a civil war, famine, an oppressive government, poverty etc.

The poem "Home", by Warsan Shire, emphasized on the point that know one should leave home unless there is a massive problem such as war or destruction or for other purposes. Shire uses imagery and point of view to convey the true reason why she left home. For example, stanza 8 line 1-8 which states " no one leaves home until home is a sweaty voice in your ear saying leave, run away from me now. I don't know what I've become but I know anywhere is safer than here." The tune of this poem is very solitary and scared. For example, stanza 7 lines 10-11 which started "I want to go home, but home is the mouth of sharks. Home is the barrier of the gun. The was also a shift that occurred in stanza 4 line 2-6, " no one puts their children in a boat unless the water is safer than the land. No one burns their palms under trains beneath carriages. The speaker wanted to go back home but wasn't sure. If home is not save for you, than you should find another place to call home.

The poem "Home", by Warsan Shire, is emphasizing that the feeling of home is where it is most welcoming and comforting. She is also stating that people doesn't leave home unless there's a need to. She uses figurative language giving home a demeaning connotation to it by saying "but home is the mouth of a shark, home is the barrel of a gun...," basically saying that home is all those things that pushes you away and make you want to run from home. Shire also uses repetition of "no one leaves home unless..." highlighting that home is not a place people would like to leave from. Shires imagery and figurative language allows and helps us visualize the horrific sights that would push us from home. The theme of the poem "Home" is people don't leave home unless they are forced.

In the poem "Home", by Warsan Shire, it emphasized on the truly reality of what society has come to, where people have to leave their home to survive . Shire reveals the reality of what its going around our world threw the theme of fear. She states " No one chooses refugee camps or strip searches where your body is left aching or prison", this is stating that people do not choice, the choice is made for them. Shire uses imagery to get us involve in the situation, like putting ourselves in their shoes, how would we feel if where ever you go their is that fear of being killed or getting send to prison. Shire uses " No one leaves home unless home', as repetition to show that the refuges will always have an obstacles that they have to overcome. The refugees are trying to leave because its not safe anymore and people are trying to take over their territory.

The poem " Home ", by Warsan Shire, creates the feeling of danger anywhere you go. The title emphases the safety of being at home is not true in some cases. The author creates this poem to describe the feeling of wanting to be home but cant because she realizes that it is worse at home. The author uses phrases like "prison yards are better", and "n***ers with their hands out...they smell strange" to help convey the use of imagery and personification through the poem. The author shows signs of sadness and pain because she wants to be home but she realizes that the environment around it is filled with racism and discrimination. In my opinion, the shift that occurs in the poem happens right after the fourth stanza when she starts to mention prison life, dead bodies, and violence. The poem makes me feel sadness and less hope in the worlds progress on racial problems that went on for years now. The overall theme is that racial discrimination and civil carnage creates an unsure feeling of non-security in any environment.

the poem "Home", by Warsan Shire, is emphasizing the point of home is where you are are comfortable and soothed unless forcefully removed. She uses repetition of "no one leaves home unless," giving a spotlight on the fact that no one leaves home unless they have to or they have no choice. Also she uses figurative language "home is a mouth of a shark" and " no one spends days and nights in the stomach of a truck." These help convey the message of home can be comforting but home can be a downfall as well. The theme of this poem is people don't leave home unless home forces you to go away.

Her home was once a peaceful place, however even her home agrees that it is not safe to be where she is, this is shown when she says “no one leaves home until home is a sweaty voice in your ear” this also shows her love to her home and that she doesn’t want to leave it, it is trying to tell us that home is special and shouldn’t be taken for granted and that you should be proud of it no matter what state it is in.
