I believe it's Good that he's tried as an adult. Kids do dangerous and stupid things like adults and think they are gonna get away with it. It's not right that they kill, and still so I think it's good that he's behind bars because he could hurt someone else

That should have not been acceptable to get 36 and 20 years for 2 murders when a minority would've gotten twice or 3 times the sentence they were given. White people always try to plead insanity. Like you wanted to kill. Nothing is wrong with you.

I don't feel like this is right and I think it's unfair. These two boys killed someone and one got 36 years and the other got 20 years . I don't feel that's fair at all because if it was an African American they would have got a life sentence . The court said that Barbeau had a brain injury from a 2009 car accident that left him with a unspecified congnitive disorder. But they did say that it wasn't enough to disregard the crime, and I strongly agree with that. Paape "the friend "was blaming Barbeau for everything, but it wasn't fair because he was apart of it too .The boys were obviously young and stupid because they didn't have common sense about evidence. They drug the woman through the house with a trail of blood following and tried to her in the car but failed . I'm sure they had finger prints all over the place. They didn't try to hide any evidence

I feel like the crime he did was nonhuman like and he was given the right punishment. He had a mental problem with a car accident so 36 years is doing justice. They need to be in a mental hospital after leaving the pen.

In response to the article, I have no sympathy for Antonio. His punishment is justified. He will be ok being tried as an adult. He wanted to be grown and kill his granny so he old enough to do the time. He will be ok to come out in 36 years he's going to be old and won't be able to enjoy much of anything. He spent all his younger days in Prison. At that age he won't even be able to have kids!

My opinion on the article is that the boy should be tried as an adult for killing his great grand mother. Just because 2009 he got in to a car crash and now wants to plead crazy .. i feel like that's just an excuse to get out of a crime he knew was wrong. he was not "so called crazy" when he killed her but wanted to be tried as crazy after he got caught? i don't get it . Then the fact that he previously was apart of killing another women and didn't want to say he was crazy then? i think that's absurd. I feel like the two boys who previously killed the women did it for a pointless reason , but by no means is it okay to kill someone . but all they got out of it was a purse some lose change and also some jewelry . so overall i think these boys have no heart or sympathy for anyone but them selves. so i believe him crying in court was an act.

This Article had me feeling outrageous, how could anyone kill an innocent soul? This women did nothing wrong, and to think that was his own grandmother he killed is sick. It's crazy how "they" always say the killer has some mental issues like that's suppose to make things better, no I'm not going to feel sorry for the killer because he had car accident and it did something to his brain, I don't care he deserved all he's getting. How can he be so cruel to his own flesh and blood? He had no feelings towards what he was doing at that time. I'm glad he got charged as an adult for his actions. Now he's in prison with no bright future ahead of him. His friends were also cruel for acting/agreeing with his negative actions. A real friend will say "that is crazy, why would you do that?" and etc.., my conclusion is the boy was cruel and evil.

In my opinion he shouldn't go to juvenile though it's not his fault ,he should've been under treatment constantly until further notice. The fact that his parents or guardian knew he had a mental disorder and didn't do anything about it is their fault however,i think he should face his charges so he can grow from it because i bet none of us would let anybody that hurted our close or love ones and get away with it.I personally wouldn't let it go until justice is made, also his friend should face life prison even without parole because he was conscious of their actions. He had the right to stop his friend or not involving himself or calling for help.Basically they should both be tried as adults because they have no right to take away somebody's life ,not one but two so they should face their charges , and i know none if us would definetly let someone that take someone precious away from you without revenge

I feel like the boy in question should serve a life sentence based on the crimes he has committed. The boy has not only take the life a human being who is his own grand mother but he is also took the life of Olson before taking the one of his grand mother. On the eyes of the law and in my own opinion, the boy deserve a life sentence in adult prisons. The boy shouldn't be treated as a juvenile because he should be fully respond to the crime he has committed. I wouldn't want him set free back into the nature as a free man after being able to take the freedom of innocent women's. No one on earth has the right to private a human of right an even more of their life. The young man is accountable for his actions physically and morally and as for his friend who is normally and physically able to distinct right from wrong but didn't do anything to stop the plan of his friend but instead he helped him while he was fully aware of the consequences. I also believe that a treatment should be provided to the boy in question to recover.

This article Made me mad. Of course he should be tried as an adult he deserves it. He had good sense to know what he was doing was wrong and to make matters worst it's his grandma. You have to be a really evil person to up and kill your own blood. I for a fact do not feel any type or form of sympathy for him. That poor old women did not deserve to get her life snatched from her so brutally. His friend as well should be found guilty too. They both are in the wrong and need to pay for the crime they committed. It's crazy not to think that this situation should be taken lightly.

I feel like a young person should be sentence as bad as their crime was. I think if a young person commits murder that person should be sentence like an adult. Reason being because murdering someone is not thinking like a child but like an adult. If this young person is sentence like a juvenile he or she won't learn their lesson and be a danger to our society. I don't agree with the 36 years of prison they are giving him for murdering his grandma. I honestly think he should complete life sentence because after being so long in prison it only makes you worst.

The fact that the defendant is being tried in court due to an apparent cognitive disability in his brain is slightly unfair. I honestly think he should at least get a lesser sentence than 36 years if what the defendant's alibi is showing is true. Many people are unfortunate enough to receive some bad luck in their lives. In fact, the defender's accomplice should receive his just punishment because he was making the situation worse as the defendant was fazed by what happened. Hopefully, the decision that is going to be made will rightfully punish both while keeping within the boundaries of the Bill of Rights, since the 8th amendment does play a role in this.

I think he should be treated as an adult, because he knew exactly what he was doing even though he had an injury in his head, and that was like five years ago, so i don't think that count when it comes to a trial this big.His friend also say that when Barbeau says that they where gonna kill his grandmother, he thought that Barbeau was playing, so by this they should just give him the death penalty, because he knew before any happen that someone was going to end up dead, so i don't think he deserves any mercy from anyone.

I believe that people should pay for their crime, even when it's a fourteen year old boy. He broke down sobbing in court, but there is not going back, he killed a person, his great grandmother. how can someone do that? He also was convicted of killing Barbara Olson, so it’s not like this is his first time killing someone. if he wasn't tried as an adult he might have killed someone else. so even if he was fourteen years old he committed a big crime and deserved to be tried as an adult.

I agree with you this wasnt even his first killing . Just seems like something he's doing when he bored . If he wasn't charged who knows how many people he would have killed in our society !! You wanna commit crimes like a big boy , then you need to do the time like one .

After reading the article, “Tried as an adult”, I feel pitiful on someone so young serving a life sentence. The two of 14 years old boys, Barbeau and his friend Nathan Paape, are so immature; they cannot control themselves and image what would happen to their whole lives after they kill someone, so following the article, it says, “ The boys then allegedly stole several items” or “ They eventually dumped the vehicle in the parking lot of a local bowling, where they shared a pizza”, implies that they don’t even feel guilty after killing someone, and especially that person is the family member. I extremely believe the rights have it owns laws and so a person should pay the price for a crime. In my view, it is justified to punish the kids. Despite of having a mental issue or any problems relate to the health, it still isn’t prove that the person is innocent and don’t have to take a responsibility for killing someone. One of the boys is currently serving a life sentence with the option for good behavior parole in 36 years; personally, I would want this person to be free after those years in the prison. I think the imprison punishment is enough to him, he wastes his whole teenage life in the prison, and after he is free, he will be 50 years. At that age, he is considered to be old; he might not do anything because it is hard to make people around accept him as a normal person. So the punishment is enough because after that he has to face with the people around who will have a negative look on him.

I feel as charging them as adults is the right thing to do . I mean I understand they were young and all but I feel like everytime one doesn't feel the need to deal with the consequences that came along with their crime they try and run with the insanity card . Like enough is enough . There sentence was very justifiably because I feel they are still young they don't need the death sentence or anything like that . But some way on another people need to understand that killing other people is unacceptable. Through out the yearshe can sit and think about what he did was that actually worth it ? Was it worth to throw away his whole life ? I feel they will walk out as better MEN then walking in as immature little boys .

This article was crazy as well. This boy and his friend killed his great grandmother. Then he wants to start to cry in court, but was he crying when he was killing his great grandmother? I don't think so. Then they want to try and pull that "he had a accident back in 2009" which is why he did it. That car accident is no excuse for killing that women. It kills me how when someone who commits a horrific crime such as his they are so quick to blame it on them having something wrong with them. In my opinion he should have got more time, but karma will take care of him. It's just a matter of time. Maybe he'll get his brains bashed out in prison.

I know what they did was very cruel and just down right wrong but you have to remember that he was in a very serious car accident and he had head issues. Even though there wasn't any made attempt to find out how much damage he actually received he should still be punished but in my opinion he shouldn't get a very harsh penalty until they figure out what he was thinking at the time.

In "Tried as an adult" both of the boys should be tried as adults and for their crime. Being "crazy" is no excuse to kill your grandmother. While the other boy was fine, he should have done something to stop what his friend was doing. To get 20 to 30 years in prison is not fair, when their are other are in prison for the same crime what more crime, or others with more tome for a small crime .

I feel they both need to be tried as adults. They both knew what they were doing, and now they have to face to consequence for their actions. His so called "accident in 2009" has not effected him that bad. From the sound of it this boy has been perfectly fine until this court case. Now all of a sudden he has mental issues, he is just fine. His friend should have the same amount of years as him, because even if the boy's "accident" affected him, his friend was still in his right mind. Yet he never stopped, anyone who can kill someone and have no remorse (until they got caught) has no heart. Anyone who can kill a family member has a dark soul, But anyone who can kill their grandmother doesn't have either one.

Nothing has changed not one bit. White people are still winning & colored people will always loose. Even with the colored president there has been no change. The more we see white people make other life worst the more our hatred will rise. I hate the color white. All dark colors should be your favorite because nothing in this life is bright but all hell in this planet

I feel that's not a good position or feeling to be going to jail for 36 years because of a murder, your grandmother at that. But if that was a colored person the trail would of been a whole different story, they probably would of said the crime was intentional and that the boy brain injuries have nothing to do with the crime he committed with no remorse he would have gotten life in prison.
